Term 4 a flown by and is nearly over already with just 45 sleeps to go till Christmas! Below are a selection of what we're been up to this past term.

Preparing craft material for the Light Party is always fun and this year was no different. Here we have the beginnings of colourful caterpillars and snails.

And finally some pictures from the evening itself including the clown

We really did have a great turn out with just over 1000 people taking part in various activities plus many parents and helpers, the place was packed!

All in all an enjoyable evening with some fireworks thanks to westfield :)

Jumpstart Olympic Friday 08.08.08

Despite all the buzz of the Olympic games we had a great turn out for Jumptart with several new kids too!

This week we have craft for you to complete at home!

Craft: Paper box
step 1. fold square piece of paper diagonally to form four creases.

step 2. Fold Triangle tip over and back down to the fold.

step 3. Fold the two remaining triangle corners down below the fold.

step 4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 another three times to create 4 shapes.

step 5. Fold two more pieces of paper into smaller squares to form the base of the box

step 6. Glue the tabs together to form a chain out of the 4 shapes.

step 7. Glue the two bases onto the inside and outside of the box.

step 8. Allow glue to dry and you're finished!

Praise and worship songs are always well received and the kids really enjoy joining in

scenes from out moving night just before the start of 'racing stripes'

sometimes even our seasoned leaders get themselves into a bit of a bind. Here T is just about to get tied up by her own arms and legs.

Its really quite fun the the extreme shop is opened once a term. Kids have the chance to buy toys etc with the powerbucks they have earned during the term.

Welcome back to a new and exciting term at JumpStart! With two outings planned we're really going to be in for a treat over the next few weeks.

With us leaders energised after several weeks we kicked off with good attendance on the cold night. Luckily a little bit of bad weather is not going to stop us from having fun and we got stuck right into it!

After burning off all that energy stored up the kids got to have some fun running around and learnt a new song.

An evening wouldn't quite be complete without a memory verse and this week it surly was a tough one. "No man can come to the me unless the Father who sent me makes them want to come." John 6:44

With Mothers Day coming up we thought it would be fitting to create a little present for those unsung heroes of our families. You'll just have to wait to see what they are but here is a quick preview..

Well what an exciting time we had with the visiting Capenray bible collage team taking over JumpStart.

The team from Hamilton went straight into games with the kids and

Following games a the unknown chef showed us all that the church was made up of many people all playing their part and explained that no matter how young we are, we can all make a difference.

During craft time we found ourselves creating all sorts of weird and wonderful things using some beads and imagination.

IMPORTANT NOTICE! Due to the lack of daylight as we head into winter, we'll be staying in to watch a movie rather than going to swim in the cold water at Long Bay beach.

We had a good turnout with a number of new faces coming along to join in the action. The evening started with a game of dragons tail followed by songs as seen below.

Officer Fife spoke on turning our lives around by doing a U turn and repenting as found in the book of Acts 3:19
Here we can see all the children got stuck into the nights craft of decorating familiar objects.

Well I hope you're all enjoyed the log Easter break and at some point stopped to think why we have the long weekend in the first place!

Our last JumpStart evening was certainly a lot of fun for us as leaders and kids.

Was lovely to see all the kids getting into the worship songs. Was marvellous to see such energy in the place.

Once again we had a quality message brought to us by the Captain. 1 PowerBuck for the first person who can tell me what message the Captain had for us?

Crafts consisted of making our own Easter eggs from two-tone chocolate. Yummy!

This week we learnt about the creation of the world and how sin came about, before that we got stuck into some games and worship songs. We also had some fun making these cute little chickens that Auntie Margaret prepared for us.

After some hard work and a little creativity these cuddly creature are born.

Well it wouldn't be right to kick JumpStart off without a game of soccer when the weather is so good!

The kids got to play a lovely game of who wants to know the truth, based on the popular TV show Who Wants to be a Millionaire. The kids seems to have a great time answering questions

Craft consisted of a matchstick art. Here we see the beginnings of a well made cross.

We had a very cool demonstration of how the Holy Spirit can be compared to a egg. It takes three parts to create the whole egg.

Hello hello and welcome to the long waited jumpstart blog update! As you'll see we had a good turnout for a first night back and got right stuck in with some games to begin.

After our first songs, memory verse, devotion and small group time we rushed right into a nice little craft! Who can guess what these are?

Yes that's right, this past Friday was our special combined youth event which saw both JumpStart and Elevator join to have a wonderful night of laser tag action.

Here are a few of the many blow up obstacles scattered around the place on Friday night.

Just like every other JumpStart we all had a lot of fun and got the chance to learn a few more things and a new memory verse.

The weather held out and we got the time to try a new relay ball game outside. At each throw of the ball the opposing team takes one step back and the gap between them grows. It doesn't take long for the two teams to be meters apart needing some decent throwing action.

It was really great to see the adults getting involved with the kids crafts!

Watch those fingers! that glue is hot.

This week we had the year 6's graduation evening which was shared by some of the parents, was great to see your support over all the years!

For our craft we got stuck into making Christmas calendars. Each day you remove a lollie from the calendar to reveal the date. By the end of the lollies it will be Christmas!

Just look how well these have been made.

For those of you who were there, you'll remember the lollie-man!

Wow! what an amazing night we had putting on the Light Party! With so many people helping, and all those of you who attended it's no wonder it was such a success. We trust you all enjoyed yourselves and ate loads of lollies :)

LIGHT PARTY , 31st OCTOBER! North cross Community Church

The light part is a great alternative to the usual Halloween trick or treating, providing a balance against the dark side. Your Children can dress up in fancy costumes, take part in caravel style games and have a really good time! Last year we had around 600 , yes six- hundred children, so its going to be big! $2 = entry + bag of lollies!

There will also be 'Whoop it up' which is geared at the 12 and older kids, so bring loose change to take part in those activities!

Food and drinks will also be on sale.

Friday night was, as you guessed it another fun filled night starting off with games. The kids got stuck right into a nice game of dragons tail. Four to five kids form a human chain while the rest of the kids create a circle around them. The aim of the game is to throw the ball and hit the 'tail' of the human chain. If you dont think its fun then have a look at the video down the bottom.

This week we taught the kids the verse below, "Whoever loves God must also love his brother". Easily said, but quite hard sometimes hey.

Some pics of small group connect time... Kids get taught the meaning of the memory verse and have a chance to talk about their week and anything else they wish. A great opportunity to get to know one another.

While we all look forward to next weeks outing to Ten Pin Bowling in Takapuna we have little update on what we did tonight.
No one managed to guess the correct answer to last weeks POWERBUCK competition, so perhaps this week we'll find a winner. Hey! tonight we had yet another great time with all the kids. As usual we started off with a few games to break the ice and allow the new kids to mix and mingle. We all had a go at a lovely new song (see clip), Yours truly had a go at teaching the guys and girls a memory verse and always ended the night with supper and a great craft!

For tonight's craft the children got to decorate these lovely bags which were all hand sewn, a bit thanks to the craft ladies who made it all possible, we heard it took a full three days to make the bags ! (wow)

Back in Action!

The 27th saw us jump right into another term of JumpStart after the long term break. The kids seemed fully energised and ready to get into the new programme. It didn't take the kids long to get right into a game of dragons tail to break the ice.

As usual we moved into a time of worship/songs, and as you can see the kids really got into it!

The kids made some lovely looking money boxes, perhaps they were going to start saving for little Joel. Here are two of the great little creations the kids made.

Everyone, meet Joel Lopez!

Some of you might recognise this very cute face, and no I'm not talking about the kid from Malcolm in the Middle. This young boy from Bolivia is in fact our sponsor child and with help from us is able to attend school, and take part in some of the activities we take for granted.

Recently we received a letter from him and would love to send him a parcel filled with letters from our JumpStart kids. If you do decide to write a letter, please try not to tell him about all the amazing presents you got for your birthday, as he wouldn't have a clue what a Xbox 360 or PS3 is, or would he likely get one soon.

Back from a Break

Last weeks break gave us enough time to recharge our batteries and tonight we were all ready to go!

Tonight the kids seemed to really enjoy themselves, especially the ones who whole-heartedly took part in games, songs, and memory verse. Thanks to the ladies who taught us how to make sponge bob square pants!

Well it looks like last weeks attendance of 50 kids wasn't just a once off affair. Tonight we had another great turn out with some brand new kids too!

After leaving my camera at home for two weeks I made sure I brought it along this time :)

Tonight the kids enjoyed making some wonderful spiders using paper and some imagination, look how well they turned out!

Yup that’s right, jumpstart started last night with a bang despite the confusing emails going around... The kids started the term off with a sports night and had lots of fun, with some kids really showing off their talents!

Wow its Easter Holidays already!

JumpStart ended this term on a high note with our pajama party. 50+ kids turned up to watch a movie and what a good time we all had.

As we move closer to Easter I’m sure you have your own idea of what it’s all about. For some it’s eating huge amounts of Easter eggs and hunting around the house trying to find more but for us Christians Easter is also a special time of the year when we remember Christ’s death and what that means to us, but not forgetting to celebrate his resurrection.

here we can see a good example of the kind of growth we have at jumpstart, just look how big and strong this little one has become :)

who would have guessed that so many kids would turn up but we managed to get them all in. Some found it hard to keep awake...

Yes, that’s right Jumpstart has started and is already into its third week of the term and what a fun time we are having. This year we have a few new enthusiastic leaders; Ab, Michelle, CJ, Tina and Stefan giving up their Friday evenings to help out! Welcome to the team.
This term we are following the theme of The Jerusalem Marketplace. The kids are taught what it was like to live at the time Jesus lived on Earth.

Here we have Rabbi Rezah with his larger than life Torah. The kids really enjoy listning to the Rabbi.

Here we have food which is eaten during the passover feast. Each piece has a significant meaning. Do you remember what each symbolises?

Hi here are just some of the things the kids have been getting up to at JumpStart this year...
A typical night will start out with games for the kids while everyone arrives, followed by a small worship session.
After this the kids are taught a verse from the bible (memory verse) and are given a small devotion which is later discussed in small groups, this gives leaders time to get to know each kid on a individual basis allowing us to answer some of the very deep questions these kids have about life and to let them know how much God loves them. The remainder of the evening is spent on craft work and a small snack.
